N'Oatmeal Cookie Shake | Plaid & PaleoWhen I was little I hated oatmeal. The gooey nondescript texture paired with the strange light brown color never appealed to me. While I wasn’t chowing down on liquid oatmeal, I did love oatmeal raisin cookies. There were always plenty of oatmeal cookies left on any cookie tray because once one kid figured out they weren’t chocolate chip suddenly they become undesirable number 1. Even better were Little Debbie Oatmeal Cookie Cream Pies! I had a very unhealthy addiction to lots of Little Debbie treats. Sophomore year of high school I ate chocolate covered donut holes every day as a snack! Gross.

While I’ve gotten my Little Debbie addiction under control, I still crave oatmeal cookies every once in a while. I’m not a big baker but still wanted to get the oatmeal cookie flavor so I thought why not make it in a shake! This shake gets the nutty oatmeal flavor from the flaxseeds, and it’s sweetness from the raisins. Each sip brings me back to my childhood love without giving me the sugar rush.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who had a Little Debbie obsession!

We made these for dessert last night and my husband didn’t break out his jar of almond butter at 10:00, it’s a miracle! Thank you so much for the inspiration you provide us with. I especially appreciate how you add that little something extra like the garnish on top of the shake, everyone tends to ignore presentation when cooking at home but it really helps with curbing cravings and making healthy food feel more like a treat!

This looks delicious!! But is it w30 compliant? I thought treats weren’t allowed? Starting my first w30 in a few days and pinning recipes!

Treats aren’t allowed but this falls somewhere between a smoothie and a treat. I would steer clear of all semi-treats to really reap the full benefits of your whole30!

[…] I’ve made grain-free “oatmeal” creme pies in the past, but thought I’d put a summery spin on the them and create a frosty treat. I was trying to come up with my own base recipe when I stumbled upon this one on Plaid & Paleo. […]

[…] I have been craving cereal lately. Maybe it is because I haven’t eaten cereal in years and want a quick breakfast. Or maybe I just miss the crunch. Either way I had a strong craving for Trix the other day. Like weirdly strong. I could recall the flavor of a cereal I haven’t eaten in probably a decade. I hopped onto Google and you would never believe there is a recipe for Paleo Trix! You need to check out Brittany Angell for all sorts of amazing baking creations! Since Trix were already covered, I decided to recreate a cereal I also used to weirdly love as a kid- Raisin Bran Cereal. Yup the wheaty-cardboard cereal with raisins not chocolate was a childhood favorite of mind. The more raisins the better was my preference. I was the kid who loved when all the other kids passed over the oatmeal raisin cookies. More for me. I guess I just really liked raisins as a kid. I still do but in moderation. Even the unsweetened kind are pretty sweet to me now. I even recreated my love of oatmeal raisin cookies in my N’Oatmeal Raisin Shake! […]
